Heather’s Story

“Prior to commencing training with SMFitness I had been recovering from surgery on my left foot and had been attending physiotherapy and clinical pilates. Prior to the injury I had been going to a local gym and intended to return to that. However I found it very difficult to go back to the gym as I was unsure of how much I could do without risking further injury.

I had put on a lot of weight while I was not exercising and really wanted to focus on building up my strength and losing some weight but was struggling to get motivated.

Training with Sharon has taught me that it does not matter what your starting point is, as long as you start and keep building on it. When I commenced training with SMFitness I felt very unfit and unable to do much. Sharon designed a program for me that supported me to work towards building my strength and increasing my fitness gradually. After a year of training with Sharon I know that I will keep going with regular exercise as I know how good it makes me feel about myself.

I have been able to get back to joining my friends in a bushwalking club and after nearly 2 years of being inactive with the club I am now participating in bushwalks for 16 kms and really enjoying being an active member of the club again. I feel more energetic and also able to do more. Simple things such as getting down on the floor to get something used to be a huge effort but is now easy. I have lost weight and gone down in dress size and feel really comfortable in my clothes now. Friends have commented on how energetic I am and how well I look.

Alex’s Story

“It’s not losing the weight that was the hard part, it's keeping the weight off that I find difficult.”

At the age of 40 Alex suffered a stroke from being extremely overweight (185kg). After spending 7 days in hospital Alex decided there and then if he didn’t change his life for the better he wouldn’t live to see 50. Alex started walking and dropped about 65kg in 9 months. The weight stopped coming off and Alex knew he needed to do some more specific training.

For someone who had never stepped inside a gym before, this was very daunting. I could tell he was very nervous and so to make him more comfortable, we chatted about his entire journey and what his ultimate goals were.

Almost 4 years later Alex has been continuously training with me 3 days a week. He has worked hard, completely transforming his body, dropping a further 10-15kg’s of body fat and gaining muscle. As well as the physical training, he follows the nutritional advice I’ve shared with him. This is why he has not only achieved these results but has also maintained them. Not even Covid-19 has stopped Alex, I have adapted his program to train online and he has dropped another 5kg since March.

Hana’s Story

“Doing on going PT has been the best decision I have made for me as well as tons of laughs and fun.

I decided I needed to start doing some form of exercise a short time after starting my new job. I was putting weight on and I started to feel uncomfortable and unhappy in my own skin, that’s when I joined the gym and got myself a PT!

When I first started training I had no confidence or idea what to do and like many others, no idea about lifting weights.

I’ve been training with Sharon over the last 3.5 years. It’s more than just physical training - she has educated me and given me the confidence in and out of the gym to make positive changes to be healthier, stronger, more active and most importantly happier within myself.

Within 6 months I reached my planned goals but my biggest achievement has been keeping them over the last three years.

When Covid kicked in and the gyms closed, I knew I needed to be accountable more than ever so I increased my sessions with Sharon. It’s very easy to fall back into the trap of “I’ll start next week,” but as Sharon always says “why are you stopping yourself from starting now?”

Aoife’s Story

“During lockdown, I needed all of the motivation and structure I could get! The 8 week training program was the perfect opportunity for me to be able to focus on weight loss and improving my fitness at the same time. The results surpassed all of my expectations. The approach to nutrition was unlike any other gym program I have tried out previously - no meal plan, this was about learning how to fuel my body correctly, make better food choices and have a more sustainable approach to eating better. To be honest, I was not confident about how to structure my meals at the start but I quickly learned, I tested out new recipes and stuck to the basics - good protein intake, lots of water, 8 hours sleep and keeping active.

I've learned that you can't just rely on being motivated every day, it's so important to know what your goal is and to put in good habits to help you to achieve it, like having some healthy snacks at the ready, some meal prep done and getting steps done early in the day. Physically, I am delighted with the results! The added bonus for me has been that the 8 week training program has helped me to adopt a healthier, more sustainable approach to my nutrition and training. Overall, I lost over 9kg of body weight and 60cms in measurements.

I am so proud of the physical changes I have achieved. I honestly feel like myself again, my clothes fit better (with a few new purchases required, which is always nice!) and I feel more comfortable and confident in both how I look and feel. My energy levels have massively improved too!
